Who we are

FIS is a coalition of experts driving strategic innovation for a prosperous and sustainable UK seafood industry.

What we do

We champion innovation projects which will make the greatest positive change for the UK seafood industry and the people driving it. Since 2014, we have leveraged more than £3million in investment into innovation for sustainable UK seafood

Why we do it

FIS believes that innovation is the key to releasing untapped potential for greater prosperity and sustainability in the UK seafood industry.

How we do it

FIS creates a pre-competitive environment for collaboration, bringing seafood experts, government and scientists together to champion innovation in the UK seafood industry. FIS connects the seafood supply chain around shared opportunities for innovation to add value to UK businesses and communities. Our projects have a clear pathway to impact and are designed by experts operating on a pre-competitive and non-profit basis.

HOW FIS BEGAN 

As part of its 2011 manifesto commitment, the Scottish Government pledged to investigate the potential of establishing a Scottish ‘Centre of Expertise for Fisheries Management’ to provide sound advice, based on applied research, to inform policy and practice in the management of Scottish fisheries.

The result, after extensive consultation with the fisheries sector, was the formation of Fisheries Innovation & Sustainability.

FIS is funded by its members, and has been supported by the Scottish Government, the European Fisheries Fund, and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.
